When one of you is retired and the other is still working full-time, something quietly changes.

One of you has freedom.
The other still has meetings, leave balances, and alarm clocks.

And even in strong relationships, that imbalance can create guilt, frustration, and a feeling of being out of sync with the person you’re supposed to be building this next chapter with.

Pauline and I are living this right now. I retired two years ago. She’s still working full-time for a few more years. And we’re learning — sometimes the hard way — how to navigate travel, plans, and expectations when our realities don’t match.

This phase is awkward.
It’s emotionally harder than people admit.
And it doesn’t get talked about nearly enough.
